There's definitely parallels between the tragedies that befell both port cities, nearly a hundred years apart. Hopefully it won't take decades for NOLA to recover, as it did for San Francisco. Nothing is ever the same; but the possibility exists that things could actually be better in the aftermath, with careful planning.
